ION iTTUSB Turn Table

MD Notes: Although the software is available to archive 78 RPM recordings, there is no hardware setting on the unit nor is the stock needle compatible.  I have purchased a Stanton 500 AL II cartridge with a stereo stylus and an Ortofon OM78 cartridge.

Detailed Description

According to ION sales literature, this was supposedly the planet's first USB turntable for converting old vinyls directly to CD or MP3 with the included recording software. (No special drivers needed!)  However, the unit is actually a cheaper, re-branded version of Numark's USB turntable.

The ION USB turntable includes Audacity software for Mac/PC for recording and a trial of Bias Soundsoap 2 for cleaning and restoring vinyl.

The ION iTTUSB turntable also has line level output for connecting to any home stereo with CD or auxiliary (AUX) inputs.

The ION iTTUSB turntable is compatible with any software that supports USB audio input sound cards.

Definitions:

Variable-reluctance - Reluctance in the context of cartridges is the resistance to a magnetic field offered by an air gap. One pole piece of a magnet is split through a pair of coils to twin faces, in proximity to which is a ferrous moving member linked to the stylus and connected to the other pole. Movement varies the air gap between the member and one face, hence also the magnetic flux through the circuit and coil.
